Writing a financial blog, it’s tempting to use personal finance stories, but I rarely do. Now, though, I want to share a story from my life to help you understand that it is vital to believe in your dreams and that money is not an obstacle.
In 1991, we purchased our first house with a mortgage of $15,000 and a $176.00 monthly payment. Sometimes that payment was hard on us.
After living there and eating Top Raman for a year, my husband and I dreamed of a log home on an acreage. We immediately acted as if it was reality. We wanted it NOW and set out to make it happen.
It was necessary to go to Nashville, Tennessee to tour log homes and meet with a manufacturer. To get the funds for the trip, we counted out our small change and found $300.00.
We were so pumped on our return– our experience was excellent and we made it back with money to spare.
Evidently our excitement was contagious; the manufacturer gave us a distributorship allowing us to buy all the construction materials at cost. We also became a show home and were offered huge savings by local vendors for appliances, flooring, plumbing supplies and furniture.
Since we were self-employed and only in business in Iowa for 1.5 years, our bank said we were a credit risk. They also told us log homes were hard to mortgage.
That didn’t stop us; this was our reality.
Using guidance from Bottom Line personnel, I made packages with the pertinent facts needed for a loan. We hand-delivered them to 6 different banks; five denied us immediately, but the president of the 6th took a chance on us.
We have never turned back.
That experience taught us that we must take massive action to get what we want. That is our philosophy to gain everything we want in life.
Since 1993, we have lived on 29 acres in a 3,800 square foot custom log home, we also have a lake home, rental and commercial property, a farm, tons of toys and more. We spend more money on vacations most years than we paid for our first house. I do not say these things to brag, I say them to motivate you to BELIEVE in your DREAMS as if you already have achieved them.
Please share with me a time that you believed in your dreams so much that they became your reality.
