The other day, a co-worker and I were talking about tips for personal success and where I get my life coaching resources. I said that so much of it comes from my personal experience and my intuition.
When I am reading or writing, I get an inspiration to go with an idea; I research it and then pull from my life experiences to make it understandable.
We discussed that a lot of my research includes how to remove negative feelings in our lives. Our vocabulary is vital in that process. What you think and what you say are significant but how you feel about what you think and say is the principle for all life improvement efforts.

For example, I said, we could remove negative words like “sacrifice” from our vocabulary– exchanging it for “choice” when verbalizing our decision not to do something in favor of something better. She told me to blog about the negative connotations of words like “sacrifice”.
I planned to until I saw an interview in Golf Magazine with Camilo Villegas, a three time PGA Tour winner, who is known for his unique putting prep and extreme training regime. The article pointed out his life philosophy: “Sacrifice or Regret, you choose”.
Yep, it’s important to choose, and focus on the ability to have a choice, just as my co-worker and I discussed. But, picking the lesser of two evils is imperative.
Let’s break this down:
Sacrifice – in dictionary form, means to give up or let go. Well, giving up does not sound enticing or disciplined, but letting go can be transforming. So, let’s agree that from now on, we will consider sacrifice as letting go of the negative. That’s a nice optimistic spin.
Regret – in dictionary form, means to be apologetic, repentant, disappointed, unhappy, remorseful, etc. There is just no way to spin or sugar coat this one. We will have to agree to consider regret as something we NEVER want in our lives.
So back to the golfer’s philosophy, which would you rather have– sacrifice or regret?
I, for one, will definitely pick sacrifice when I have an opportunity to choose, and I believe that I always have a choice. It will feel good to think of letting go of the negative when I choose the more disciplined options in my daily schedule. I think it will feel good for you too.
